When I first joined Sakara’s Level II Detox program, I had no intention to write about it. In fact, I almost never do reviews – maybe twice in my entire blogging career? But this was a wonderful experience, and I thought you should know.

“I’m too particular to do a detox”

I like cooking. I like food. I know and teach about nutrition. So aside from encouraging a client who wanted to try the revamped Level II, I didn’t really think I’d need a detox, let alone liking it. But it didn’t take long for my client to convince me. Okay, I’m easily persuadable when it comes to Sakara Life. But I’m also a fan of a team spirit, you know? Accountability. Camaraderie. Community. So I decided to go on this journey alongside my darling client, and it turned out to be a blessing. Not only did we provide each other with moral support, but our similar experiences helped validate each other’s observations. Despite not planning to document this experience (hence the minimal personal photos – sorry about that!), I found myself so impressed that I had to share.

Here’s what sets Sakara’s Level II detox apart

Before diving into my experience, let’s talk about what makes this program unique. This isn’t your typical juice cleanse or restrictive detox. The Level II Detox is a thoughtfully curated 5-day program that includes:

  • Three chef-crafted, organic meals daily
  • Three daily hydration touchpoints with specialized tonics and drinks
  • Targeted detox supplements
  • A body gua sha tool for lymphatic support
  • A comprehensive digital guide with daily checklists
  • A practical insulated cooler bag

What really caught my attention was the program’s foundation in the Institute of Functional Medicine Detox Food Plan. With over 70 unique plant-based ingredients daily, it’s Sakara’s most advanced and nutrient-diverse detox yet.

My Personal Experience: The Good, The Better, and The Surprising

The Food (Yes, Real Food!)

Let me start with a happy accident – I mixed up Day 1 and Day 2’s breakfasts, but it worked out perfectly because the Sweet Potato Hash has always been one of my favorite Level II meals. Both my client and I agreed that the breakfasts were standout dishes. While Day 2’s portion seemed smaller, my client noted it was “surprisingly filling and tasty.”

As someone who typically gravitates toward savory breakfasts, the morning offerings were right up my alley. The lunches were equally impressive – I even customized mine by adding some steamed green beans (big appetite here!) and using half the dressing provided.

But the real showstopper? The kitchari. Coming from someone who grew up eating legumes and grains, this is high praise: it nearly rivaled my nan’s cooking!

The Drinks That Stole The Show

If I could add anything to my regular Sakara subscription, it would be the tonics and the passion fruit refresher. These weren’t just your average beverages – they were thoughtfully crafted hydration touchpoints that made the whole experience feel luxurious rather than restrictive.

The Wellness Rituals

The inclusion of gua sha was a pleasant surprise that complemented my existing daily abhyanga practice perfectly. These mindful touches elevated the program from a mere meal plan to a comprehensive wellness experience.

What’s Not Included (And Why That’s A Good Thing)

The program eliminates common inflammatory foods and potential irritants, including:

  • Meat and dairy
  • Grains and gluten
  • Soy and corn
  • Processed foods and refined sugars
  • Nightshades
  • Caffeine and alcohol

More importantly, the program helps you avoid hidden toxins like pesticides, chemicals, and preservatives often found in everyday foods.

A Behind-the-Scenes Appreciation

Having worked with various wellness programs, I know the immense effort required to create something of this caliber. From supply chain management to sales, UX design to backend operations, customer service to social media – every aspect of this program shows attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Final Thoughts

While I didn’t plan to write this review, the Level II Detox proved too good not to share. It’s rare to find a detox program that feels both effective and enjoyable, but Sakara has managed to strike that balance perfectly.

After sharing my experience with the Sakara Level II community (you’ll be able to join post-purchase for amazing support and accountability), an interesting discussion emerged about the seasonality of detox programs.

As I noted in our conversation,

“We could really use both summer and winter versions, as raw veggies and smoothies hit differently in cold/wet weather. From an Ayurvedic perspective, they increase wetness and cold, so I would love them more in the summer.”

My fellow community member Sara beautifully coined the term “season-centric” detoxes, suggesting that our bodies desire different forms of nourishment based on the time of year. It’s worth noting that during my experience, I didn’t focus on weight loss and chose to add some steamed vegetables to support my body’s needs. The real value came from incorporating these “medicinal” meals while questioning and refreshing my regular routines.

Special thanks to the Sakara Slack community, especially Greta and Sara, for their warm support and insightful discussions that helped shape these reflections.

Whether you’re new to detoxing or a wellness veteran, this program offers a refreshing approach to reset and renewal.
